Sania-Mattek run halts in Pacific Life Open |

Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek's fine run in the $2.1 million Pacific Life Open came to an end as they lost to the Chinese pair of Zi Yan and Jie Zheng in the doubles semi-finals here.The seven-seeded Indo-American duo lost to the third seeded Chinese in a closely fought match 6-7(4) 7-5 10-5 Friday. In a closely contested match, Sania and Mattek drew first blood as they took the 1st set 7-6. However, Yan and Zheng won the 2nd set after getting a critical break in the 11th game of the set. The third seed then went on to win the tie break 10-5 to book their place in the final. They will now play the Russian pair of Dinara Safina & Elena Vesnina for the title. Earlier, Sania and Mattek overcame Taipei duo of Yung-Jan Chan and Chia-Jung Chuang 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 to advance to the semifinals. |
