With his giant-killing spree at the Chennai Open, where he finished runner-up, Somdev Devvarman has climbed 48 rungs to be placed 154th in the ATP rankings issued today.Somdev, who was at 202nd place last week, made some astonishing upsets at the Chennai Open, defeating Spaniard Carlos Moya and Ivo Karlovic before his amazing run finally came to an end with the loss to Croat Marin Chilicloss in the final last night. The 23-year-old Somdev, currently has 562 points to his name. In the women's singles, Sania Mirza continues to fall back and the Hyderabadi girl, who was at the 100th spot last week, lost seven places and was at 107th position with 628 points in the latest WTA rankings. Prakash Amritraj, meanwhile, was the next best-ranked Indian even though he lost three places and was at the 209th spot with 392 points. Veteran doubles' player Mahesh Bhupathi, who crashed out of Chennai Open quarter final with his Bahamian partner Mark Knowels, remained static at the sixth place, while his former doubles' partner Leander Paes also remained stationed at his last week's 10th position. |
